Not long after Canada legalized recreational marijuana, retailers are already running low or completely sold out.

According to local media, stores across the country sold out of weed products just hours after the drug was officially legalized on Wednesday. And suppliers are scrambling to meet the massive demand.

One store owner told the CBC: "It's very bad news in my eyes. I ran out at 4:20 today, believe it or not. I'm a little shocked that I sold out so fast, and also very upset that I don't have product for everybody."

Even customers looking to order cannabis online experienced website glitches and loading issues, thanks to the high volume of traffic.

As Newsy previously reported, it's now legal for adults in Canada to possess, buy, use and grow cannabis. But each province and territory is allowed to set its own rules around marijuana, so the minimum age to buy, the types of marijuana available and how much people are allowed to have will vary.
