Hundreds of thousands of federal employees missed their first paychecks as the partial government shutdown stretched into its third week.
An estimated 800,000 workers went without a payday on Friday, and it's unclear when they'll see another one.
The partial shutdown began on Dec. 22 and entered its 21st day on Friday — making it tied for the longest shutdown in history. It all stems from the fight over funding for President Trump's proposed border wall. He wants $5.7 billion for part of it, and the Democrats have said that they won't accept any deal that includes money for it.
And according to estimates by S&P Global Ratings, the shutdown has cost the American economy $3.6 billion so far.
Government workers across the country have protested the shutdown, pleading with lawmakers to reach an agreement so they can return to work.
