The U.S. will unfreeze some funding for the Syria Civil Defense group, commonly called the White Helmets.
The State Department said the U.S. released around $6.6 million for the group, which is known for its volunteer work rescuing Syrian civilians after bombings and other attacks.
The Trump administration froze $200 million designated for Syrian recovery aid in March. The money for the White Helmets came out of that amount. It's still not clear what will happen with the rest of the money.
The U.S. accounted for roughly one-third of the group's funding in recent years.
