Lawmakers May Still Get To Vote On Special Counsel Protection Bill

The Senate Majority Whip says Republicans are willing to vote on a Mueller protection bill, but the Senate Majority Leader probably won't allow it.

There appears to still be a chance Senate lawmakers could vote on a bill that would protect special counsel Robert Muller's investigation.

On Tuesday, Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn said Republicans would be willing to hold a vote on a Mueller protection bill if that's what it would take to advance more judicial nominees through the confirmation process.

Sen. Jeff Flake has vowed to oppose any of President Donald Trump's judicial nominees until the Special Counsel Integrity Act gets a floor vote in the Senate.

But Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell still says the legislation is unnecessary, and, if lawmakers tried to force another vote on it, he "probably" would block their efforts like he did earlier this month. McConnell reiterated he doesn't think President Trump will fire Mueller, nor does he think he should. So he says the bill would be irrelevant.
