Judge Rules Executive Orders On Unions Overstepped Authority

Federal workers' unions argued the president subverted federal law with his orders, and on Saturday, a federal judge agreed.

President Donald Trump overstepped his authority when he tried to restrict federal workers' collective bargaining rights. That's according to a ruling a federal judge handed down on Saturday.

President Trump signed several executive orders in May that included new time frames for collective bargaining negotiations, and for firing government employees.

The American Federation of Government Employees filed suit less than a week later, arguing the president's orders subverted federal laws.

District Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson's Saturday ruling sided with that argument, and struck down nine different provisions of the executive orders.

The Trump administration can still appeal the ruling, as it has done with similar rulings in the past
