In a big win for Republicans, Mike Braun will be the next U.S. senator from Indiana.

Braun was locked in a tight race with the incumbent, Democratic U.S. Sen. Joe Donnelly.

In 2016, the Hoosier State voted for President Donald Trump by a 19 point margin, so Donnelly's seat was one Republicans reasonably hoped to flip.

Braun is a businessman, and he's seen as political outsider. He has the support of the president, who held two of his Make America Great Again rallies in Indiana to support Braun's campaign.

As for his politics, Braun is largely aligned with President Trump's agenda.
