Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker lost his chance at a third term in office Tuesday.

Democrat Tony Evers narrowly beat Walker by just over 1.1 percentage points, according to the unofficial tally. The Associated Press reported it was Wisconsin's closest gubernatorial race in more than 50 years.

Despite it being a close race, a recount might be impossible. Under a law signed by Walker last year, candidates can only request a recount if they lost by 1 percentage point or less.

Walker's campaign alleged that "thousands" of ballots had to be recreated after getting damaged. His spokesman said that they want those ballots to be reexamined and that Walker will be waiting for the official vote count before deciding if he will demand a recount.

While on the campaign trail, Evers, who is Wisconsin's superintendent of public instruction, pledged to increase school funding, lower prescription drug costs and implement new criminal justice reform measures.

But to achieve those promises, Evers is going to have to work with the Republican-controlled legislature; so he might have to make some compromises.
