Ohio's House Speaker resigned Tuesday. Cliff Rosenberger has reportedly been the subject of an FBI investigation for his "lavish lifestyle."

Rosenberger reportedly travels around the world and stays in a luxury downtown Columbus condo.

In a statement, Rosenberger said that the FBI probe has the potential to "be very demanding and intensive, and could take months or even years to resolve," although he believes all of his actions have been "both ethical and lawful."

Ohio Gov. John Kasich told local media outlets that he was sorry to hear the news but respects Rosenberger's decision.

Rosenberger's resignation will take effect May 1. Speaker Pro Tempore Kirk Schuring will step into the position until a new speaker is elected.
