Special counsel Robert Mueller has moved to drop some of the charges against former Trump campaign aide Rick Gates.
Mueller filed a 32-count indictment Thursday against Gates and former Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort accusing them of new tax and bank fraud crimes. On Friday, Gates pleaded guilty to conspiracy against the U.S. and making a false statement.
As part of his plea deal, Gates agreed to cooperatewith authorities in matters deemed relevant to the special counsel's investigation.
Outlets speculate the move to dismiss the charges against Gates could mean he provided Mueller with good information.
