Wikileaks founder Julian Assange confirmed a story linking his organization and the Trump campaign. Sort of.
Assange said Wednesday on Twitter, "I can confirm an approach by Cambridge Analytica (prior to November last year) and can confirm that it was rejected by WikiLeaks."
Cambridge Analytica is a data firm that was employed by President Donald Trump's campaign. The Daily Beast, citing two sources, reports Cambridge Analytica's CEO said he reached out to Wikileaks regarding the infamous 33,000 emails missing from Hillary Clinton's time as secretary of state.
Those emails were deleted from Clinton's private email server and became a huge talking point for Trump and his surrogates during the race.
Assange later clarified that he had not confirmed The Daily Beast's reports of who made the request or what it was about — just that a request from Cambridge Analytica was received and rejected by Wikileaks.
