Six weeks after he was shot at a baseball field in Virginia, Rep. Steve Scalise has been released from the hospital.
MedStar Washington Hospital Center confirmed the House majority whip was discharged on Tuesday and has made "excellent progress" in his recovery. The hospital says he will go into "intensive inpatient rehabilitation."
MedStar Washington Hospital Center says Scalise will return to work when his rehabilitation is complete.
Scalise and five others were injured after a gunman opened fire at a Republican congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia, last month. Police fatally shot the gunman.
Scalise sustained a single gunshot wound to the hip, which injured his internal organs. He had several surgeries and was in and out of intensive care.
