It turns out the FBI agent who was moved off the Russia investigation for anti-Trump texts helped reopen the investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails in 2016.
Peter Strzok was removed from Robert Mueller's team investigating Russian interference in the election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign. That's because he sent texts to FBI lawyer Lisa Page that made it seem like he and Page were biased against President Donald Trump.
The president and his GOP colleagues in Congress used the texts to try to discredit the Mueller probe. This new revelation suggests it's not quite that simple.
CNN first reported the news about Strzok's involvement in the Clinton probe. It also says he wanted to aggressively pursue the case in 2016.
The outlet published emails that show Strzok played a key role in preparing a letter telling Congress the investigation into Clinton's emails was effectively reopening. Former FBI Director James Comey found emails on former Congressman Anthony Weiner's laptop that were pertinent to the investigation, and he told Congress he was reviewing them to determine if they contained classified information.
That decision, which Comey made just days before the election, was seen as a major factor in Clinton's loss.
