Sen. Grassley Trying To Convince Kavanaugh Accuser To Testify

The head of the Senate Judiciary Committee says he's willing to do whatever he can to make Christine Blasey Ford comfortable enough to testify.

The head of the Senate Judiciary Committee is trying to convince Christine Blasey Ford to speak to senators on Monday.

"Where I'm focused right now is doing everything that we can to make Dr. Ford comfortable with coming before a committee, either in an open session or a closed session or a public or a private interview. That's four different ways she can chose to come," Sen. Grassley said Wednesday.

Grassley scheduled the Monday hearing to address Ford's sexual assault allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

After the hearing was announced, Ford's attorneys notified the committee that she'd like the FBI to investigate her claims first.

Grassley responded by sending her attorneys a letter. He stressed that it's the Senate's responsibility to investigate and said, "The FBI does not make a credibility assessment of any information it receives with respect to a nominee."

Wednesday morning, President Donald Trump reiterated his support for Kavanaugh and appeared to tie Ford's credibility to her willingness to testify.

"Look, if she shows up and makes a credible showing, that will be very interesting and we'll have to make a decision.  But I can only say this: He is such an outstanding man. Very hard for me to imagine that anything happened," Trump said Wednesday.
