Kavanaugh Awaits Fate As Senators Comb Through FBI Background Check

Democrats say the FBI probe is "incomplete," while Republicans have so far reacted positively to the investigation results.

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is awaiting his fate as a justice while lawmakers comb through the results of his FBI background check.

The supplemental investigation was requested after last week's Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, where Christine Blasey Ford testified that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her while they were in high school. Kavanaugh denies the allegation.

In a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray dated Thursday, attorneys for Blasey Ford said the agency failed to interview their client and multiple other witnesses whose names were provided.

Over on Capitol Hill, senators are taking turns reviewing the only physical copy of the background check document.

GOP leaders say the results don't show any evidence of misconduct. Democrats call the scope of the investigation "incomplete."

Now, it's all eyes on the undecided senators. Republicans need two to vote "yes" in order to confirm Kavanaugh.

So far, Republican Sens. Susan Collins and Jeff Flake have agreed the investigation appears to be "very thorough," stopping short of saying how they'd vote.

A procedural vote on Kavanaugh's nomination Friday could potentially lead to a final vote as soon as Saturday.
