Pennsylvania Republicans are asking the U.S. Supreme Court to block a new congressional district map drawn by the state's highest court.
In an emergency application filed Wednesday, lawmakers say the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overstepped its authority when putting the new map together. And they're asking the U.S. Supreme Court to stop the map from going into effect.
The request came two days after the state's Supreme Court issued the new map.
After ruling the old map was unconstitutionally gerrymandered, the General Assembly and the governor were tasked with agreeing on a new one. When they couldn't reach a compromise, the state court issued a map of its own.
