The Trump Administration is trying to get the Supreme Court to hear cases regarding its ban on transgender people serving in the military.
The Department of Justice filed a request on Friday to have three cases consolidated into one and heard by the court this term, effectively leap-frogging scheduled appeals in lower courts.
President Trump announced the ban in July 2017 via Twitter, much to the surprise of his own military leaders.
Federal judges have granted injunctions against the ban — halting its implementation until the separate cases are resolved in court. The White House issued a revised ban in March, which judges also blocked.
The Obama administration lifted the military's previous ban on transgender people serving in the summer of 2016. Estimates at that time put the number of transgender people serving between 2,450 and 15,000.
