Trump Fires HIV/AIDS Advisory Council With No Explanation

President Trump fired the remaining members of his HIV/AIDS advisory council on Wednesday.

President Donald Trump fired the remaining members of the White House's advisory council on HIV/AIDS on Wednesday.

Six members of the council quit back in June. The remaining members reportedly received a termination letter via FedEx with no explanation given for their firing.

Former members of the advisory group have criticized the administration's inaction when it comes to HIV/AIDS.

The Trump administration still hasn't appointed a director to the Office of National AIDS Policy. And the president's 2018 budget proposes massive cuts to important HIV/AIDS programs.

But it's also not unusual for an administration to clear out the previous administration's appointees like this. Former President Barack Obama did the same thing to George W. Bush's HIV/AIDS council.

It's not clear when new appointments might be made.
