President Donald Trump is threating to impose a 20 percent tariff on European car imports.
He tweeted on Friday, "If these Tariffs and Barriers are not soon broken down and removed, we will be placing a 20% Tariff on all of their cars coming into the U.S."
His statement comes on the same day the European Union starts imposing tariffs on $3.24 billion worth of U.S. imports.
The EU announced those tariffs in retaliation for President Trump's tariffs on EU steel and aluminum.
Late last month, the president asked Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross to investigate whether auto imports are a national security threat.
