Dozens of groups will participate in demonstrations across the country Tuesday to protest multiple new state laws banning abortion.

More than 50 organizations are taking part in the #StopTheBans protests, including Planned Parenthood and the ACLU. Protests are scheduled to start at noon local time in almost every state.

The #StopTheBans website says: "We will show up to speak out and fight back against this unconstitutional attempt to gut Roe and punish women."

Last week, Alabama's governor signed a controversial bill that bans abortion at any stage of pregnancy unless the woman's life is at risk or the fetus has a "lethal anomaly."

Georgia's governor signed a bill earlier this month that effectively bans abortion after a fetal heartbeat is detected, which is usually about six weeks into pregnancy.

Several states, including Mississippi and Ohio, also have so-called "heartbeat" laws. And legislatures in other states are considering adopting similar legislation.
