Adidas is the latest company making moves to help eliminate plastic pollution.

According to media outlets, Adidas is pledging to use only recycled plastics by 2024. That means the company will stop producing shoes and clothing with "virgin" polyester over that period of time. The company's head of global brands tells the Financial Times that polyester makes up about 50 percent of the material in Adidas products.

The sustainability efforts won't stop there. CNN reports that Adidas will also take steps to get rid of "virgin" plastics in its corporate, retail and distribution settings.

Adidas isn't new to the recycling game. In 2016, it teamed up with environmental group Parley for the Oceans to unveil a shoe made from recycled water bottles. Adidas said at this year's SXSW that it expects sales for that shoe to jump from 1 million pairs in 2017 to 5 million pairs sold this year.
