More British Airways customers were likely hit by a recent data breach than the airline initially thought.
The company said Thursday that further investigations into its September hack showed that 185,000 more people might've had their personal information stolen.
It's notifying 77,000 customers that their name, billing address, email and card payment information with security code (CVV) were potentially compromised. The remaining 108,000 people's personal data was likely taken without the card security code.
In September, the company announced it was investigating a customer data breach that it said originally affected 380,000 transactions from customers who booked tickets during a certain time period. The number of impacted people is closer to 244,000 people, the airline clarified Thursday.
British Airways says it hasn't had any verified cases of fraud since the September announcement.
The airline could face a substantial fine from UK privacy regulators as a result of the breach under the EU's new data protection law.
