MoviePass Is Now Cheaper For Some Users — But It's Only Temporarily

MoviePass cut its monthly fee, but only new subscribers get the discount.

MoviePass is dropping its price, but it won't last forever.

New subscribers can get MoviePass for $6.95 a month. Before, the fee was just under $10.

As part of the subscription, moviegoers can see one movie a day, every day, in participating theaters. There's been some speculation on MoviePass' sustainability — primarily because the cost is so low and MoviePass pays theaters full price for each ticket.

MoviePass believes it will succeed by giving people more access to seeing movies in theaters.

The price drop comes after the company faced backlash for admitting it routinely tracks users' locations, though there's no indication the temporary cut is related.
