Mattel continues to diversify its Barbie portfolio — and this time, it's kicking up the heat with a little soccer starpower.
The company modeled its latest doll after Abby Wambach, a two-time Olympic gold-medalist who is the all-time leading scorer among men and women in soccer history and who is also a lesbian.
"It just proves that we really are getting somewhere. And not everybody is created equal. And if you're out there, and maybe your doll doesn't look exactly how you feel, here's another option," Abby Wambach said at The 2016 MAKERS Conference.
Wambach shared this Instagram of her new doll with the caption: "Nothing quite like getting your own Barbie doll!! Legit I am honored."
This, all happening a week after Mattel's announcement of its new 2016 Fashionistas lineup. The popular doll is now made in a wider range of body types, skin tones and hairstyles.
The company also released an Ava DuVernay and Zendaya doll last year and featured a little boy in one of its ads.
The Abby Wambach doll further achieves Mattel's goal for Barbie to be more reflective of today's world while also proving that playing with dolls is best done with diversity.
