Facebook Testing Snapchat-Like Feature Again

Facebook began testing a feature that allows users to put a time limit on posts, another Snapchat-like move from the company.

Facebook is reportedly testing out a Snapchat-like feature with expiring dates for post — and analysts aren't surprised.

WMBF: "Snapchat, by the way, rumored to have turned down a $3 billion offer from Facebook. They knew they had something good there."

Ever since Snapchat turned down the offer, Facebook has been toying with Snapchat-style apps and features, trying to get a slice of the photo-sharing company's success.

Wednesday, some users got a peek at a new feature allowing them to choose how long their posts stay up. They can pick from an hour to a week.

The Next Web reached out to a Facebook rep about the change who said, “We’re running a small pilot of a feature on Facebook for iOS that lets [some] people schedule deletion of their posts in advance.”

As we mentioned earlier, this isn't Facebook's first go-round testing Snapchat-like features. Back in June, the company launched its photo-sharing app Slingshot.

But The Verge says it hasn't exactly caught on, "perhaps in part due to its unique pay-to-play mechanic that asks you to send a photo before you can open the one you just received. Facebook recently made this requirement optional, though at this point Slingshot is quite likely as good as dead."

Well, the company is certainly relentless. If Facebook does decide to roll out the feature, it could take up to 90 days for the deleted post to disappear from the site's servers. So, side note, be cautious of what you're putting out there.
