If you've used your credit card since April 1, you might have noticed you didn't need to sign to complete your purchase.
That's because starting this month, major credit card companies — including Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express — no longer require a signature at the register.
The companies say chip-embedded cards have significantly reduced fraud and have made signing unnecessary.
But credit card signatures aren't instantly a thing of the past. The change is optional, so some retailers might still ask for customers' John Hancock.
And merchants that are ditching signatures are making the switch at different times. For example, Target says it plans to get rid of them this month.
