Solar Industry Jobs Are Down For The First Time In 7 Years

There were almost 10,000 fewer jobs between 2016 and 2017.

For the first time since 2010, jobs in the solar industry decreased, even though the industry itself grew 168 percent in seven years, according to the National Solar Jobs Census released Wednesday.

Between 2016 and 2017, there were almost 10,000 fewer jobs.

So why the drop? Well, it comes down to the jobs available in each state. Although the industry grew in 29 states, the two states with the largest solar workforces — California and Massachusetts — saw drops of 14 and 21 percent, respectively.

But, the National Solar Jobs Census says the "long-term trend continues to show significant growth."
