Actor John Mahoney, best known for his work on NBC sitcom "Frasier," has died. He was 77.
Mahoney was in hospice care. According to the Chicago Tribune, he had cancer but the cause of his death wasn't immediately clear. He was born and raised in England and moved to Chicago in his late teens. He was a magazine editor until he was nearly 40, when he took up acting at Steppenwolf Theatre.
He won a Tony Award in 1986 for "The House of Blue Leaves." After "Frasier" ended he moved back to Chicago and kept working at Steppenwolf.
