"I see you" ... and soon enough you could see the Na'vi deliver that touching, yet confusing, line on another stage. Filmmaker James Cameron and Cirque du Soleil CEO Daniel Lamarre just announced a real-life, acrobatic "Avatar" arena show.
Cameron, who directed the 2009 blockbuster, and Lamarre made the announcement this week at Montreal's Commerce + Creativity conference, or C2MTL. The two said they plan to bring the show to fans all over the world by late 2015. (Via 20th Century Fox / "Avatar")
In a statement obtained by Deadline, Cameron said "Over the years, I have discovered the extraordinary talents and imaginations of both the artists and the creative forces behind Cirque du Soleil. I know we share the common goal of bringing audiences to another level of entertainment experiences. I look forward to doing just that on this project."
Cameron revealed at C2MTL that "Avatar" and the Canadian entertainment company have actually been tethered together since before the movie debuted.
"We actually involved an ex-Cirque du Soleil performer as the movement coach for Zoe Saldana and the other actors when they were trying to create an interpretation." (Via Montreal Gazette)
This will be the first time Cirque du Soleil has used a film as inspiration for a show. But this isn't the first time Cameron has worked with Cirque du Soleil — he served as executive producer for 2012's 3D experience "Worlds Away."
This news comes after an announcement from Cameron that the three — yes, three — "Avatar" sequels are currently in pre-production, with the first installment scheduled to hit theaters in late 2016.
