It was a crowded weekend at the box office, but only one film managed to have a successful three days. Want to guess which one?
Holding on to the No. 1 spot, as we all knew it would, is "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," bringing in an estimated $63 million. That pushes its worldwide total past $630 million.
Taking the No. 2 spot this weekend with a $17.5 million debut is Amy Schumer's "Snatched." The action-comedy managed to bring in more money than the extremely expensive medieval epic "King Arthur."
Unfortunately, though, it's not the critical darling that "Trainwreck" was, and it most likely won't make as much money.
"You can't just go plop these two funny people and just say, 'now go be funny,'" Alonso Duralde said on "What The Flick?!"
Either way, "Snatched" should eventually make a profit — unlike the undisputed loser of the weekend.
At No. 3 is "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword" — the first (and maybe the worst) flop of the summer — bringing in an estimated $14.7 million on a $175 million budget.
This is a familiar fate for the folks at Warner Bros., who belly-flopped hard at the box office in 2015. First was "Jupiter Ascending" in February and then months later, "Pan" — both really bad movies with really bad reviews and really big price tags.
With the flop of "King Arthur" kicking off the studio's summer, Warner Bros. hopes now rest on the shoulders of Diana Prince. "Wonder Woman" hits theaters June 2.
As for next week, Kenny Powers is a long way from North Carolina in "Alien: Covenant."
