Ed Sheeran Accused Of Copying 'Let's Get It On' Again

A $100 million lawsuit alleges Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud" copies the melody, bass line and harmonies of Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On."

$100 million lawsuit was filed Thursday against Ed Sheeran, alleging the singer-songwriter ripped off parts of Marvin Gaye's song "Let's Get It On."

A company that says it owns part of the copyright to the classic 1973 tune says Sheeran's song "Thinking Out Loud" copies multiple elements, including melody, bass line and harmonies.

Sheeran has actually already faced extremely similar legal action over his Grammy-winning track. The family of one of writers behind "Let's Get It On" claimed copyright infringement back in 2016, but a judge later dismissed the case without prejudice. That allowed Structured Asset Sales to relaunch the lawsuit after purchasing part of the copyright from the writer's family.

But Sheeran is no stranger to these type of lawsuits. Last year, he settled a case against his song "Photograph" and ended up reportedly giving up a "significant share" of the tune's royalties.

And earlier this year, Sheeran was accused of copyright infringement over a song he composed for Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. Sheeran called the accusations "baseless," but the judge has yet to issue a ruling.
