Queen Elizabeth II has officially given her grandson Prince Harry and his American fiancee Meghan Markle consent to marry.
Shortly after the announcement of their engagement, the queen said she was "delighted" by the news, but British law states the first six royal family members in succession to the throne must have the monarch's permission to wed.
Harry is currently fifth in line. His brother Prince William and wife Kate are expecting their third child, who will knock Harry down to sixth in line to the throne. Which means he would still need the queen to sign off on his upcoming nuptials.
Harry and Markle's wedding is scheduled for May of this year.
