Google's parent company, Alphabet, is encouraging its tens of thousands of North American employees to stay home as coronavirus continues to spread.
According to a memo obtained by multiple news outlets, the tech giant is recommending that North America-based staff work from home through April 10, if their position allows. Google offices will remain open for workers who need to be physically present to do their jobs.
In recent days, Google, Apple, Facebook and other tech companies have asked their employees in the Bay Area and Seattle to work remotely due to coronavirus concerns.
Google also said it will make sure its temporary staff and vendors can take paid sick leave if they have to take time off because of coronavirus.
As of Wednesday, there were more than 1,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus and nearly 30 deaths in the U.S. The World Health Organization has officially declared the outbreak a global pandemic.
