Democrats in the House of Representatives have nominated Rep. Nancy Pelosi for Speaker of the House, ahead of a chamber-wide vote in January.

"Are there dissenters? Yes, but I expect to have a powerful vote as we go forward," Pelosi said at a press conference Wednesday.

The closed-door vote ended up 203-32, which means Pelosi will need to pick up more support to make the 218 votes she needs to win the speakership in January.

Several of the 32 Democrats who voted against her have called for new leadership, but no other Democrats ran to oppose Pelosi for the nomination. In 2016, while 63 Democrats voted against Pelosi for House minority leader in caucus, only four remained against her in the final vote

Pelosi was the first ever woman to serve as Speaker of the House, holding the role from 2007 to 2011. She's led House Democrats since 2002.
