U.S. Rep. Clay Higgins of Louisiana is facing some backlash fora Facebook post he wrote about anyone suspected of being an Islamist radical.

The message read, in part: "Not a single radicalized Islamic suspect should be granted any measure of quarter. Their intended entry to the American homeland should be summarily denied. Every conceivable measure should be engaged to hunt them down. Hunt them, identify them, and kill them. Kill them all. For the sake of all that is good and righteous. Kill them all."

The former police captain posted the message after news of the London terror attacks broke on Saturday.

And it didn't take long for the backlash to start rolling in.

Higgins told The Washington Post he was surprised his message became so controversial and insisted he was referring to Islamist terrorists, not peaceful Muslims.

But Higgins hasn't shied away from making controversial comments about Islamist radicals in the past.

"His actions inspire hope to the millions of Americans who have watched our nation decline over the past decade, watched helplessly as radical Islamic horror has gripped the world," Higgins said.

And he was well-known for his fiery rhetoric during his time with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office in Louisiana, especially in his weekly "Crime Stoppers" videos.

"Young man, I'll meet you on solid ground anytime, anywhere — light or heavy. Makes no difference to me. You won't walk away," Higgins said.

Higgins resigned from his position with St. Landry Parish in early 2016 after his boss asked him to "tone down his unprofessional comments." He started his first term in Congress in January.
