Some Democratic lawmakers are not happy with a comment Rep. Claudia Tenney of New York made during a radio interview Wednesday.
"There's a lot of politics in it. It's interesting that so many of these people that commit the mass murders end up being Democrats," Tenney said.
U.S. Rep. Gerry Connolly posted on Twittersaying Tenney "owes America a sincere and abject apology." New York State Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi — who's campaigning for Tenney's House seat — said her "toxic rhetoric is shameful."
Tenney's statement comes just a week after 17 people were killed in the Florida school shooting and while students across the country are asking Congress to take up gun control legislation.
Her campaign manager released a statement after the interview aired, saying she knows "perpetrators of these atrocities have a wide variety of political views."
