For the second year in a row, the Trump administration plans to help farmers cope with the ongoing trade wars.

On Thursday, the USDA said the government is setting aside $16 billion in aid for farmers. The largest chunk of that money, $14.5 billion, will be direct payments to producers across the country. Officials said the first payment is expected to go out in July or August.

The administration also plans to spend $1.4 billion buying crops like fruit, vegetables, beef and milk. That food will then be provided to food banks and food assistance programs across the country.

The assistance amounts are based on the expected impact of tariffs with China, the EU and Turkey. But it's not expected to fully cover the financial hit farmers and producers will take because of the trade wars.
