Twenty states are suing the federal government to effectively repeal the Affordable Care Act — also known as Obamacare — "once and for all."
The coalition led by attorneys general from Texas and Wisconsin filed a suit Monday. They argue Obamacare is unconstitutional because the recent GOP tax law eliminated the individual mandate's tax penalty for not having coverage.
That mandate is a core part of a functional Obamacare marketplace. The idea was that requiring healthy people to pay into the market would lower premiums.
The states bringing the suit argue the Affordable Care Act no longer has a legal basis and want it gone.
