"This is not about embarrassing President Trump. It is about ensuring the American people have the information they deserve," U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern said.

Lawmakers are getting closer to approving a measure that would make sure the details of Robert Mueller's Russia investigation are made public.

The House Rules Committee passed the nonbinding resolution by voice vote on Monday. A floor vote on the measure is expected to take place later this week.

Mueller is required to give his final report on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election to Attorney General William Barr.

But during his confirmation hearing, Barr wouldn't promise that Mueller's findings would be made public. And since then, Democrats have been working hard to guarantee its release.

It's unclear exactly when Mueller plans to deliver his findings to Barr, but several reports say that day is fast approaching.
