Judge Rebecca Dallet won the open Wisconsin Supreme Court seat.

Fox News reports this is the first time since 1995 a liberal candidate has won an open Supreme Court seat in the state.

She's expected to narrow the conservative control of the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Dallet's win is a pretty big deal for the state because Republicans have held both of Wisconsin's chambers since 2010.

But in January, the liberal party started to make a comeback after a Democrat won a state Senate seat the GOP held for almost two decades.

A Republican political consultant in Wisconsin told The New York Times that people shouldn't compare the April election to the midterms in November. He said, "They're just very different animals, and not comparable."

Dallet will serve a 10-year term.
