Florida's Democratic Party wants to delay the state's voter registration deadline as Hurricane Michael approaches.

Florida Democrats filed a lawsuit asking election officials to push Tuesday's deadline to next week as mandatory evacuations are underway. Florida's secretary of state gave local officials permission to extend paper registration deadlines until Wednesday, but all online registrations are still due Tuesday at 11:59 p.m. ET. Democrats say that's still not enough time, since the storm could cause internet outages for people registering online.

Hurricane Michael is expected to to be a Category 3 storm when it makes landfall around Panama City, Florida, on Wednesday.
