Republican Rep. Kevin Cramer has defeated Sen. Heidi Heitkamp in the North Dakota senate race.

Heitkamp had trailed Cramer significantly in polling leading up to the election, at one point down as much as 16 points.

Analysts pointed to Heitkamp’s vote against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation as a significant factor in her unfavorable polling.

President Donald Trump made a visit to North Dakota in September to campaign for Cramer.

This will be Cramer’s first stint in the U.S. Senate.
