Illinois' Republican governor has conceded the race to lead the Prairie State.

Bruce Rauner called Democrat J.B. Pritzker to concede the race within an hour after polls closed. Early voting results had Pritzker with around 65 percent of the vote.

Rauner led Illinois for one term, winning his election in 2014.

Illinois' gubernatorial race was one of the most heated and expensive races in the country. Both candidates had spent millions of dollars of their own money to fund their campaign, with Pritzker spending $171 million and Rauner spending nearly $70 million.
