New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has resigned amid allegations of assault and abuse from four women.
The New Yorker detailed the allegations in an article Monday evening. The women accuse Schneiderman of slapping them, choking them and threatening to kill them if they broke up with him. Just hours later, Schneiderman resigned. Tuesday is his last day.
Schneiderman told The New Yorker: "I have engaged in role-playing and other consensual sexual activity. I have not assaulted anyone. I have never engaged in nonconsensual sex, which is a line I would not cross." A spokesperson for Schneiderman said the attorney general never made the alleged threats.
Schneiderman filed a civil rights lawsuit against Harvey Weinstein in the wake of the assault allegations against the movie producer. Just last week, Schneiderman released an open letter to the Weinstein Company in which he asked stakeholders to help survivors.
