President Donald Trump Sent Congress His $4.4 Trillion Budget

Trump's budget decreases funding for most governmental departments.

President Donald Trump sent Congress his $4.4 trillion budget Monday.

Trump only requested increases for funding for five departments: the Departments of Commerce, Defense, Homeland Security and Veterans Affairs, plus NASA. Every other department received a budget cut, with the Environmental Protection Agency getting hit with the biggest change — a 34 percent decrease in funding.

Trump also suggested cutting taxes by $1.5 trillion over the next 10 years.

Presidential budgets don't really have much pull, though. Congress controls the money, and it's very unlikely all the requests in Trump's budget will come to fruition.
