US Says Iran Is Complying With The Nuclear Deal But Gives A Warning

U.S. officials said President Donald Trump agreed to recertify that Iran is sticking to the terms of the 2015 agreement.

The Trump administration again confirmed Iran is complying with the international nuclear deal.

U.S. officials told reporters late Monday that President Donald Trump recertified to Congress that Iran is sticking to the terms of the 2015 agreement.

The State Department is required to update Congress every 90 days on Iran's adherence to the deal. And Trump had until Monday to make a decision.

But the recertification came with a stern warning.

Officials said Iran has violated the "spirit" of the nuclear deal by developing non-nuclear ballistic missiles and supporting terrorism.

And because of that, the U.S. announced more than a dozen new sanctions against groups or individuals linked to the country.

This is the second time Trump has recertified Iranian compliance with the nuclear deal since he took office in January.

But he was a very vocal opponent of the agreement on the campaign trail.

"Never, ever, ever, in my life have I seen any transaction so incompetently negotiated as our deal with Iran," Trump said Sept. 9, 2015, during a Tea Party rally.

Trump officials said Monday the U.S. is working with its allies to fix some of what the White House says are flaws in the agreement.
