It's the highest since 1910, when immigrants accounted for 14.7 percent of the population.

New Census data shows immigrants made up the biggest percentage of the U.S. population in 2017 than in more than 100 years.

The Trump administration has taken steps to curb both legal and illegal immigration.

Despite that, people who are foreign-born made up 13.7 percent of the U.S. population last year — roughly 44.5 million people. That's the highest since 1910, when immigrants accounted for 14.7 percent of the population.

The data also shows more immigrants were Asian or college-educated than in previous years.
