Canada is investing around $1 billion a year in female reproductive health services around the world.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made the announcement at a global women's conference in Vancouver Tuesday. His office said the funding will go towards ensuring women and girls have access to safe and legal abortions, comprehensive sex-ed and support for maternal and neonatal care.
Trudeau said, "All women, no matter where they live, should have access to the safe, quality health care they need."
Canada announced similar funding in 2017 where it allocated around $485 million over three years to female reproductive health and rights across the globe.
The latest funding is a 10-year commitment that's set to begin in 2023.
