Apparently there is a new trend out there that’s anything but the bee’s knees.
Reports are coming out about teens applying Burt’s Bees lip balm to their eyelids and calling it “beezin.” Seriously, who came up with this? (Via TIME)
Medical Daily reports, "The effects only last for a short period of time, but medical experts warn that prolonged use can lead to a number of eye problems."
And plenty of folks are talking about those eye problems which can lead to serious medical repercussions.
“Even though it’s just applied on the eyelids, peppermint oil releases fumes that can cause that same irritation in the eyes.” (ViaKDVR)
“...redness in the eye, swelling.” (Via KOKH)
“ It can spread herpes virus to the eye. It has symptoms similar to pink eye.” (Via WPTV)
Ok, so that all sounds pretty bad. But not everyone is buying the latest "youth crisis."
Some are even calling it ridiculous, marking it as yet another fly-by-night trend that the media is hyping up.
Although beezin does have real, physical consequences, this isn’t the first time the media cooked up fake teen "trends." Revision3 has a highlight reel of some of the craziest stories that eventually fell flat.
“Teens cook up something called Jenkem”
“Rainbow parties we can thank oprah for this one.”
“Butt Chugging, we actually talked about that in a recent video” (Via Revision3)
Fake fad or not, at least now you're informed. And please, keep the lip balm on your lips.
