Shell could still appeal the ruling.

Oil and energy giant Royal Dutch Shell has to cut its carbon emissions by nearly half by 2030.

That order from a Dutch court could set a new precedent for other multinational corporations and their responsibility for climate change.

Seven environmental and human rights organizations sued to get Shell to cut emissions in line with global goals set out in the Paris Climate Agreement.

Shell could still appeal the ruling.
