Microsoft Tries To Keep Users Away From Chrome And Firefox

Bing users are receiving alert messages urging them to stick with Microsoft's Edge browser rather than Chrome or Firefox.

Microsoft is taking self-promotion to a new level. The company has designed a new approach to try to keep Windows 10 users on its new Internet browser, Edge.

An alert message pops up on search engine site Bing when users type in the words "Chrome" or "Firefox." The message reads, "Microsoft recommends Microsoft Edge for Windows 10," and it provides a link to the reasons

writer for VentureBeat tried it out and noticed that the message did not reappear after searching for those keywords a second time.

A Microsoft spokeswoman told VentureBeat, "These notifications were created to provide people with quick, easy information that can help them get to know these experiences better."

But statistics show people are moving away from the Microsoft browser. Usage volume has dropped since Edge's release at the end of July. And only 39 percent of Windows 10 users accessed the default browser in August. On the other hand, data shows Chrome is the fan favorite.
